Home Is with Jenn Im

I have a confession to make. I’m one of those couch potato that essentially watches Youtube videos almost 24/7. One Youtuber I adore is Jenn Im from clothesencounters and another channel I subscribe to is Kin Community. So imagine my joy, when I find a video from the two talking about my favourite thing … home!

You can watch Jenn talk further on what a home means to her here –

Listening to her, I can totally relate to a few things as a young adult myself. Mainly –

  • Getting excited over kitchen appliances and home stuff more than clothes! This here is a total achievement unlocked moment to adulthood I say. Confession #2: I personally get super giddy going to Ikea.
  • That feeling of having two homes; the my i-grew-up-here parents home and my i-live-here current home. The latter has changed a fair bit from my shared unit in uni to the place I’m at now, but I always do think back to my old room at my parent’s place. I distinctively remember the days post-graduation. Imagine how I felt as I unpacked my stuff from boxes, essentially struggling to find places to put these things I accumulated, all representing a life I lived. Photos of friends, my law textbooks, all the Typo birthday gifts, my Harry Potter stuff (don’t ask)… That was when it really hit me how foreign the room felt after 4 years away, it was like time had stopped in this room (and it did actually). I mean, I did come back over the summer but I would be in and out. Mentally I knew I wasn’t staying long. So when I graduated, I think it finally clicked that this was going to be my room now (or until otherwise). You see no longer was I the girl from high school/college, so much had happened in between. There was also no other room with everything the current me adored waiting for me somewhere. So let’s just say, after that I spent a few days reorganising my room just to update it a bit.
  • Home rules passed down from parents to myself! Being a sucker for cosy homes and home decor is my Mum’s fault… really… I got it all from her. Good thing is that we both have the same taste. Makes everything so much easier. Basic home rules such as warm white light/yellow lights are the way to go, invest in quality bedsheets (they will bring you joy!) and a few more are basic rules I live by to this day.

I’ve shared what a home or more likely a cosy home means to me. I’m curious, what does home mean to you? Is it cosy? I’d love to read about it.

As a bonus for reaching this far down into the post, I’m sharing with you Jenn’s previous house tours. Many know her for her cool fashion sense but you can see her style reflected in her living spaces as well. Instead of hiding away her shoes, sunglasses and accessories, she displays them neatly and it becomes part of her space. You’ll also find hidden treasures all over most likely from flea markets or with an interesting story.

I love the above house tour! One of my all time favs

Hope this inspires you guys to have a think about what home means to you and relook at your own space with new bright eyes.

xx, Dee.
